California vs Oregon: Ducks can win this football game
After failing to win the first games against the LSU Tigers, Oregon is back in contention not only for the Pac 12 Conference but also for a possible BCS slot as the Ducks won their last three games.
Coming off from a by week, Oregon will play California in a conference game on Thursday at the Autzen Stadium. Oregon Ducks offensive game continues to revolve around LaMichael James in the rushing category. James may have a slow start but his last two games proved to the world that he is up for another productive years. After rushing 54 yards and 67 yards against LSU and Nevada respectively, James pulled off two great performances, one of the games was against Arizona when he compiled for 288 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.
Because of James last two games, he is back as the leading rusher in the FBS with 153 yards per game. In this game against California, James is expected to perform at the highest level for he knows how the team needs him.
Quarterback Darron Thomas still is explosive but the primary option of the offense is on rushing. Thomas can pass the ball by hitting his targets if needed. Surely, with the running game and passing game of Ducks, the Golden Bears have the slim chance of winning.
James will have a challenge in this game because he will be up against the ninth best rushing defense in the country. California Golden Bears defense can pride themselves in allowing 78 yards per game in rushing defense. It will be a tough game for James and if he can make another 200 yards on the ground, then the Ducks will get the victory.
With the tight defense of the Golden Bears, it is possible that this is an upset in the making. California has been consistent in the offense that they can make a great start to put the pressure on the passing offense of the Ducks.
California will rely on their quarterback Zack Maynard who compiled 349 yards and a touchdown in a defeat to Washington two weeks ago. Maynard will be the key factor for the Golden Bears as he controls the offense. If Maynard finds his receivers early in the game, then they will have the capability to grab this game against the Oregon Ducks.
If the California will close in on James, Thomas will have to pass the ball with accuracy. He currently has thrown 11 touchdowns with no interceptions at all. Furthermore, coach Chip Kelly must make the right decision when the game is on the line. His defense must also show courage against the passing game of California.
This game is all about rushing offense of Oregon vs passing offense of California. It is mandatory for both teams to make the defensive adjustments as the game progresses.
Ducks will absolutely used their power rushing game to distance themselves from California. It would be surprise if this game will be tight in the fourth quarter knowing the fact that Oregon has all the advantages in all the facets of the game.
